Private publishers to apply for textbook publishing

The State Common Board of School Education has called for application from private publishers for textbooks for schools for the coming year. The application is for all subjects with the exception of Tamil. Publishers may apply for Classes I till IX, which will all follow the tri semester system from this academic year.
The move has a few critics though. ‘Many schools prefer buying the books from the Textbook Corporation. Last year, many private publishers incurred a loss because of this… Since the introduction of Samacheer Kalvi, publishers are focused on non-core textbooks such as general knowledge, handwriting improvement and value education’, said K.A. Roymon, Secretary of the Education Publishers’ Association.
