The festival of lights or Deepavali is around the corner. The Deepavali is usually celebrated with happiness and joy and with lots of sweets made out of ghee etc.
It is now brought out that the increase in the ghee, milk products, and cardamom prices have made the sweet makers worried. Point is at least 60% of famous sweets such as halwa and laddus etc needs the use of cardamom and this cardamom is used for its aromatic property.
It has been pointed out by a wholesaler of dry fruits, Mr. Ravindra Jain of Vinod Marketing that floods in the state of Kerala had damaged the cardamom plants. This has led to a drop in production. He mentioned about how new crops have arrived and it has brought down the prices from Rs 3000 to Rs 3500 per kilogram. He hinted that the prices would go down after Deepavali due to lesser demand.
Cardamom prices went up to Rs 6000 per kilogram in the month of September is known. Mr. R. Srinivasaraja of Adyar Anandha Bhavan spoke about how 6 months back the price of cardamom was just Rs 850 per kilogram and how suddenly the price of cardamom got increased. He revealed that some shopkeepers have been holding onto the stocks to create artificial demand. He finally shed light on how this would make the sweet manufacturer think twice about using cardamom for making sweets.
After the recent revision by the diaries, the prices of ghee plus other milk products such as butter and khoa have shot up. It was later pointed out by a trader that ghee is costlier by Rs 100 per kilogram and if prices get hiked then it would create issues for the customer. The point is traders are reducing their profit margin so that they could retain the customers. From a place in Mylapore, Mr. Ganesh would be preparing and selling sweets for friends and families. He spoke about how the increase in the prices of ghee and other milk products does not worry him as he doesn�t need to pay salaries, rents, and overheads, etc.
