The recent rains in the state of TN and Chennai have brought the dengue mosquitoes back into action.
It is worthy to note that dengue fever is a mosquito borne tropical disease caused due to dengue virus. Point is female mosquitoes of species of aedes type mainly aedes aegypti spread this dengue fever. After a person gets infected, then the symptoms would begin to show on the affected person in 3 to 14 days. The dengue affected person would have issues like high fever, headache, vomiting etc.
The latest news in the school education department has issued guidelines to all institutions belonging to the state of TN. The main purpose was to create awareness about dengue fever and take steps to prevent the spread of viral fever in the rainy season.
It must be taken into account that the school education director, Mr. S. Kannappan had asked the students, teachers and school heads to make sure that school campuses, classrooms and bathrooms are kept clean without any water stagnation. The director mentioned in the guidelines that teacher must be alert and take note of students coming to the school with fever or developing fever in the classrooms etc. He also mentioned that if the symptoms of the students were severe, then their parents should be informed. The affected students must be taken to the nearest PHC or hospital for treatment.
According to the guidelines it is clear that the students were asked to alert their school heads if there was any stagnant water present in the school campus. Awareness about dengue fever and steps taken to prevent dengue fever must be discussed with the students in the morning assembly.
The guidelines also mentioned about the pledge that must be taken by all the teachers and students to ensure that they would keep the surroundings clean. Point to be noted is if student show any symptoms then teachers have been advised to inform the parents and take them to the nearest primary health centre of hospital.
It is important to mention here that the schools have been given instructions to make sure that clean drinking water is available.
Information collected is the schools have been asked to put banners and posters on the school campuses and highlight preventive steps for dengue. On the other hand, there would be many programmes regarding the awareness about the dengue fever and these would be taken up by the students clubs and associations like NSS, NCC, scouts, guides etc.
