A ban on the usage of items made of reinforced plastic will be implemented in all Railway Stations from 2nd October.
The administration of Indian Railways has decided to ban the use of plastic items with thickness under 50 microns. This ban will be effective from 2nd October.
Both the central and state governments have been initiating actions to restrict the usage of plastic items which cause pollution and harm the environment. All �1-time use and throw� plastic items are banned.
In this development, the country�s largest public-sector undertaking, Indian Railways, has also taken initiative to bring down the usage of plastic items by banning them. Accordingly, a ban will be imposed on the usage of all 1-time use plastic items of thickness less than 50microns. This will be effective from 2nd October.
IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering Tourism Corporation) has emphasised that the empty plastic water bottles used in trains must be collected by the pantry staff and arrange to remove them safely away.
Further, the Indian Railway Administration has ordered that all stations must observe the plastic management regulations and it is mandatory to ban the usage of plastic items and the various catering agencies operating in the long-distance trains must closely follow the rules and regulations on plastic items.
In this 1st Phase of this initiative, 1853 machines which crush the empty plastic water bottles are to be installed immediately in 368 important Railway Stations.
In this order sent to all Railway Zonal offices sent by the Indian Railways, it is strictly mentioned:
- To initiate action to ban all the �1-time use-and-throw� plastic items.
- Emphasise not to use plastic carry-bags.
- Arrangements will be made to install crushing machines for the plastic water-bottles.
- This regulation on the ban of plastic items must be strictly followed.
- It should be confirmed that this ban on plastic items will be implemented and would be effective from 2nd October.
