Those who travel frequently by the buses would have come across many stickers pasted on the windshields on the buses mentioning words like Murugan Thunai, Vaazhga Valamudan etc. These stickers would soon become thing of past. An official circular has been sent now in this regard.
The important information that has come out now is the transport department has banned drivers from pasting such stickers on the windshields on the new buses as these stickers would reduce the visibility.
Annual technical review meeting took place on 2nd August 2019 and in the meeting the decision to stop pasting stickers on the windshields of the new buses was conveyed to the managing directors of the 7 state run transport corporations. It is now said that a circular has been sent to all depots in connection with this and action would be taken against those technical officers for violations. In the last 3 years of time, many accidents took place in TN due to un-wanted stickers on the windshields of the buses is known.
It is shocking to mention that Chennai MTC buses were involved in 1066 accidents in 2018 and every fourth accident person was a pedestrian. Impact with the front part of the buses has lead to the deaths of many persons and it was 69%. This was as per the official data. When compared to the rear side, there were more blind spots on the front for the bus drivers and it has lead to many road accidents. An accident that took place on the Perambur Barracks Road last week confirmed the above mentioned fact. It must be noted that a sticker pasted at the bottom of the front windshield reduced the visibility of the bus driver leading to an accident.
It was later pointed out by Mr. Anbalagan, SVS-AAP transport workers union that round stickers pasted at the left side of the wind shield also blocks the driver visibility and causes accidents. This round sticker shows the fleet number or depot code is known. He added that the new red coloured buses were given 10 inch stickers though as per the norms it should be just 8 inches only. As a result, pedestrians or 2-wheelers travelling in front would not be seen clearly.
According to a senior official belonging to TNSTC, Madurai, only stickers allowed were those that explained the bus service categories like ordinary, special or ultra deluxe etc that would be pasted above eye level on the left top side.
