Gone are the days when the police department did not have any clue about the miscreants who created crime against women etc. This is the age of technology is well known. It is now revealed that the Chennai Corporation would join hands with the city police to set up 9000 facial recognition cameras. These cameras would be places in 2500 locations in Chennai under Nirbjhaya Fund.
Information collected is facial recognition cameras have been installed already at 700 locations in Chennai under Smart City Mission and it would be completed by the middle of the month of September. Information about 2500 locations in Chennai city has been collected by the corporation of Chennai now and in these places many crimes against women were reported in the past. It was mentioned by officials that command and control centre would have the facility to keep an eye on the stalking incident at these 2500 locations in Chennai.
Categorizing areas in Chennai city on the project has been carried out by the corporation of Chennai along with the police department. It is brought out that schools, colleges and those places having high populations were taken into consideration more than other places. As per an official it is clear that the system would detect and even prevent chain snatching and violence etc. Point is since many areas would not be covered by the facial recognition cameras the civic body has started building mobile command and control centres to get data signals from those areas that could not be covered by these cameras. It must be noted that the mobile command and control centre would be a rugged 6 wheel driving set up and it would cover a distance of 50 km radius with wireless transmission.
During emergency and disaster events, wireless cameras and satellite communication would facilitate emergency response. Live streaming of video of the events including floods, fires and major accidents would also be facilitated by the wireless cameras and satellite communication. This was confirmed by an official. The corporation officials later mentioned about the lack of such mobile units in 2015 floods and said the mobile facility would function in those areas that lack signal.
