Puducherry Chief Minister Narayanasamy announced that since it is a continuing scorching summer this year, giving due consideration to the health of the school-going children in this oppressive weather, the school reopening in Puducherry has been postponed from 3rd June to 10th June.
He shared with the press reporters in the Legislative Assembly complex:
Though the peak of the summer, known as kathiri veyyil has concluded in Puducherry on 29th May, the intensity of heat from the continuing scorching summer has been quite severe. As demanded by the parents of the students, the students, the Congress party, and some other parties and the Service-oriented institutions, I had a discussion with the Education Minister Kamala kannan. We decided to reopen the schools on 10th June.
This decision would be valid for both government and private sector schools. The schools will certainly reopen on 10th June. A Government Order will be issued in this regard by the Department of Education. The government has taken this decision mainly considering the well-being of the young students.
Our government intends to function along with the central government. We have been successfully executing all the central governments projects over the last 3 years. We have approached several central government departments, sought and got some special projects approved. We insist that the central government must allocate the required funds and the state government must cooperate and coordinate in the successful execution of the central government projects.
One of our main demands is the Statehood status from Puducherry. We have already visited Delhi along with our alliance partners and presented out case.
Further, the central government has to allot some funds to our government for successfully implementing the 7th Wages Review Commissions recommendations and so additional funds are to be provided. The central government must also help in the state government efforts for the generation of funds.
On this occasion, when questions were raised regarding the transfer of Deputy Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, he replied the decision in this regard will be taken by the central government.`
