Till now, men and women who worked at Fort St George wore dresses according to their wishes and choices. This would not be possible anymore. The sensational news is Tamil Nadu government that believes clothes make the man and woman, has brought in a new dress code now for those working at Fort St George.

It is now revealed that the women would have to wear sarees or salwar kameez or churidar with dupatta of sober colour. Men would have to wear formal shirts with formal pants. It is not yet known whether veshtis would be allowed or not for men.

The point is an order was issued by personal and administrative reforms department signed by chief secretary, Mrs Girija Vaidyanathan on Tuesday. It sought to modify the dress code prescribed in the TN secretariat office manual to suit the present day circumstances and to maintain the decorum of the office. An official expressed his thoughts and spoke about how the elected representatives wear veshtis and questioned about why wearing pants was made compulsory.

It is worthy to note that as per the order when a male officer makes his appearance before court or any tribunal or any judicial form should wear short buttoned up coat with full sleeves, with trousers. He added that the government had taken a decision to preserve the Tamil culture and it is a compulsory that everybody must follow the order. This has been mentioned as the reason for the dress code now. It must be noted that youngsters prefer wearing T-shirts and jeans pant. Many people visit Secretariat now and it is now said that the formal dress code of these staffs would bring huge respect.
