As 100 new deluxe buses with airconditioning and sleeping berth facility have been added to the fleet of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), there has been a substantial increase in the number of passengers.

Exclusively on the occasion of the Ayudha Pooja holidays, around 50000 passengers have booked tickets and travelled.

Around 1080 buses are operated daily by the TNSTC to several places including Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Tirupathi, and Bengaluru. On an average, around 75000 passengers travel daily in these buses.

As no new buses were added to the fleet over the last few years, only the old buses were being operated. Because of this, the public preferred the private omnibuses and travelled in them overlooking the TNSTC buses.

In this scenario, a new fleet of 40 air-conditioned buses, 10 buses with toilet facilities, and 50 luxe buses were added. So, the passengers have again changed over to travel in the TNSTC.

It could be visually confirmed that there has been a substantial increase in the number of passengers especially during the recent Ayudha Pooja festive holidays.

Immediately after the upward revision of ticket fares by the TNSTC, there was a considerable decrease in the number of passengers. But. With the recent addition in the fleet with deluxe buses, the number of passengers has now gone up substantially.

Especially, 100 new buses have been added to the fleet owned by the TNSTC. The average percentage of passengers, which went down to 65% after the upward revision in bus fares, has now gone up to 90%.

Accordingly, the average number of daily passengers travelling in the TNSTC buses has increased from 70000 to 75999. Even as the passengers enjoy the additional facilities, TNSTC is also earning additional revenue.

During the Ayudha Pooja festive season alone, 50000 passengers had reserved and travelled in the above buses.

In the next phase of activities, there is a plan to add an additional 350 buses to the current fleet. It is expected that there would be more air-conditioned buses in this new additional fleet.
