In order to reduce the increasing traffic congestion at the Chennai Mofussil bus terminus at Koyambedu,  buses are to be operated from the Chennai Mahavaram multi-storeyed bus terminus to Andhra and Telangana from today (Saturday, 20th October).

The State Government of Tamil Nadu granted approval for a special exclusive bus terminus to be constructed for buses operating to Andhra and Telangana on 31st October 2011.

Accordingly, the government initiated construction activities for a new bus terminus over an area of 8 acres 241560 sq. ft. in Madhavaram, located adjacent to Chennai.

The buses leaving for Nellore, Tirupathi, Hyderabad, etc., will start from this new Madhavaram Bus Terminus. This would reduce the present heavy traffic congestion prevailing at the Koyambedu outstation Bus Terminus to a great extent.

For the 1st time, 42 buses will be operated from the ground floor and 40 buses on the 1st floor can be parked at the multi-storeyed building.

Further, a separate room for breastfeeding mothers, pharmacy or medicine shop, passengers’ waiting hall, drinking water, toilets, and facilities are provided in this multi-storeyed bus terminus complex.

This new Madhavaram bus terminus has been built at a cost of Rs. 95 Crores. The complex was inaugurated by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palanisamy through a video-conference facility on 10th October.

In this scenario, from today (20th October), a total of 143 buses to Andhra and Telangana will operate from here. Buses to various places including Tirupathi, Kalahasthi, Nellore, and Cudappah will be operated from here.
