School education department to train around 2 lakh teachers in Tamil Nadu

It is known that new syllabus have been introduced to classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 In TN. It is now said that around 2 lakh teachers belonging to government, government aided and private schools would be trained by the school education department in Tamil Nadu. This would be done in the current academic year.
According to the sources, the teachers would be trained in two phases and in the phase 1 the teachers belonging to government and government aided schools would be trained. Then the teachers of private schools would be trained separately.
Teachers would be given Teachers Resource Book and that would act as a guide for them in taking lessons. Not only that power point presentations and training sessions would also be given to the teachers. There would be few misconceptions and apprehensions regarding the new textbooks and the trainers would do their best to remove these two effectively.
As per the subject expert involved in the training process it is clear that it is just a perception that the new books are voluminous. The size of the lessons plus the number of chapters in the new books has increased only slightly than in the past. These new books have many info boxes, many examples for understanding of the concepts, evaluation and problem solving etc.
In the last week the state level training for teacher trainers started. For subjects such as maths, zoology, botany and English, the state level resource persons were already trained. Presently the training for subjects like physics and chemistry is going on. Three teachers from each district are being trained and they would train teachers from districts.
According to Rita John, who is the head of the department of theoretical physics, University of Madras, plus domain expert for physics subject, holistic approach for training is adopted. She also spoke about how in addition to the power point presentations and teachers manual, DVD containing as many as 38 videos explaining key topics in physics were also given to the teachers.
The introduction of new topics to the students plus developing the student interests in the relevant topics would be covered in the training. It is worthy to mention that to develop sequential thinking, topics were rearranged in the books and it would be explained to the teachers.
