The record sheet system to be abolished in all primary and secondary schools

The state government of Tamil Nadu has ordered all the government primary and secondary schools should stop the current system of issuing record sheets for the students who complete their schooling. Instead, the primary and secondary government schools must issue TC (Transfer Certificates).

When the students who studied from 1st to 8th Standards complete their classes and leave to join other high schools, the system of issuing record sheets was adopted. The record sheet contained details such as the personal data of the student, and the list of schools they had attended. This might lead to wrong conclusions about the students. Also, the teachers were facing difficulties in maintaining record sheets. However, the Transfer Certificate contains personal details of the student and the last class passed.

The school teachers have been pressing for a long time that the system of issuing transfer certificates must be followed in the primary and secondary schools as well. This has been recognised now and the latest government order issued by the state government secretary for School Education, Mr Udhayachandran, that the system of issuing transfer certificates must be adopted immediately replacing the system of issuing record sheets. Further, just as practised in all the government higher and higher secondary schools, the record /register of admissions and transfers or removal must be maintained in all the government primary and secondary schools.
