The educationists have expressed deep regrets about the trend that many students, who join the IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIM (Indian Institute of Management) among very tough competitions, drop out of these courses half-way.

As per a recent survey, it is estimated that about 2000 students have left their academic courses half-way.

The professors from IIM Kolkata observe that the main reason that many students from the economically backward sections find it extremely difficult encountering problems in the new learning ambience.

A friends scheme, Manntord has been introduced amidst the 2nd year students of IIM to remove some routines such as ragging. Besides, ‘Teacher’s Guidance training’ is available for the students to get over their diffidence and depression.

The Director of IIM Kolkata, Bakul Dholakia, informs that the main reason for students to drop out of the course is the difference in economic status of the students  from backward economic background when they need to interact with the students who belong to a relatively upper economic class.

The phenomenon of difference in economic status has put a question on the the students education.
