Hotels hikes the price of the food all of a sudden

Posted on: 24/Nov/2015 12:35:18 PM
During the last few weeks, the prices of cooking oil, dhal and vegetables have shot up. Because of this some of the hotels have increased the prices of food. A meal which was costing Rs 90 has now become Rs 110. The parcel meal which was sold at Rs 110 is now being sold for Rs 130.

Secretary of Tamil Nadu Hotels Association R Rajkumar while speaking about this price rise said, some of the hotels in Tamil Nadu have increased the price of the food due to the cost increase of ingredients. Tamil Nadu Hotels Association has not announced the hike. Before Deepavali, the prices of dal, cooking oil, sugar and vegetables were very high. We planned to increase the rates at that time itself but we did not implement it. Only big hotels have increased their prices. Their quality, hygiene and accommodation fix the price. Moreover some of the restaurants have increased the rates because of the hike in ingredients price. In ordinary hotels, the prices of the food have not been increased. We are convening a meeting on 29th of December. In this meeting we will decide about the prices. Accordingly, in the year 2016, we have decided to increase the prices between 10% to 20%. As of now many hotels are incurring losses between 20% and 30%. The reason for this, there is lots of restaurants. Apart from this there are lots of unlicensed unhygienic street food eateries. Now a limited meal in hotel is sold between Rs 60 and Rs 80. This meal consists of rice, sambar, rasam, 2 poriyal, 1 kootu, appalam and butter milk. Some hotels sell meals for Rs 30-Rs 35. This meal will consist of limited rice, 1 poriyal and sambar. Similarly the rates of Pongal, poori, idly, dosai, kichadi and vadai have not been increased. From next year 2016, the rates of all food items will be increased by 20%.

Since the rates of the food in the hotels are high and vegetables prices are also high, people from middle income group and ordinary people prefer to go to Amma Unavagam. People are seen flooding Amma Unavagam.
