Prices of greens go up

Posted on: 24/Nov/2015 2:18:03 PM
Due to the North East Monsoon rains, the productions of vegetables were very highly affected. Because of this the rates of vegetables have sky rocketed.

The prices of brinjals, tomatoes and beans are still high. At this juncture, due to heavy rains the greens are decomposing. Within a span of two weeks, the prices of greens have become double folded at Chennai Koyambedu market.

When asked about this, Mr Govindaraj who in the General Secretary of Green Sellers Association said, the greens cone to Koyambedu wholesale market form Vellore District Latheri, Lakshmipuram, Thaangal, Mottur, Esanthangal, Wallajah and Solingur. For the use of Chennai city people, 2 lakhs green bundles are being brought in 10 Lorries. Because of the North East Monsoon rains all the greens are perishing. Because of this only 5000 bundles of greens are coming to Chennai. Due to short supply of  greens, the greens were sold between Rs 6 to Rs 10 per bundle last week. Now the prices of the greens are Rs 20.
