Funds of Rs. 3340 Croes have been allotted by the Central government to Southern Railways for undertaking projects including track-doubling and track-widening.
The Central Finance Minister presented the budget for the financial year 2020-21 recently. In this, funds of Rs. 3340 Crores have been allotted for the Southern Railway Projects.
The details
- Out of this fund, Rs. 1238 Crores has been allotted for the specific projects - presently under progress - including doubling of tracks in the sections Chingleput-Villupuram and Madurai-Maniyachi.
- Rs. 175 Crores have been allotted for the track-widening project in the section Nayiladuthurai- Thiruvarur- Karaikkudi-Thiruthuraippundi- Agasthiyampalli.
- Rs. 198 Crores have been allotted for providing additional facilities for the passengers.
- Rs. 2.70 Crores have been allotted for the new railway track in the section Rameswaram-Dhanushkoti.
- Rs. 37 Crores have been allotted for the signalling projects.
- Rs. 730 Crores have been allotted for relaying of tracks.
- Further, approval has been granted by the central government with the allotment of Rs. 4131 Crores for laying double tracks in the sections.
