On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced about Ayushman Bharat, a healthcare scheme. He said the scheme will be launched on 25th September which is the birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyay. Modi stressed the point that the new launch will eradicate sufferings of the poor at times of illness. The poor will not have to borrow money from anywhere when they are in need for treatment.

It is first of all a tech-driven scheme. In another 4-5 weeks, the scheme will be technologically tested and the needed efforts will be done to ensure that it is foolproof.
In this Ayushman Bharat scheme, over 10 crore families and 50 crore Indians are to get benefited by providing annual cover of up to Rs 5 lakh
The scheme focuses mainly on the poor, rural families and families of urban workers. About 8.03 crore rural and 2.33 crore urban families are targeted, says Socio Economic Caste Census data.
The scheme includes 1,354 packages where treatment for knee replacement, stenting, coronary bypass, etc. are include at price cheaper by 15-20 percent as compared to the Central Government Health Scheme.
The hospitals empaneled with the scheme shall have an assist for Ayushmam Mitra. They will coordinate with the hospital and the beneficiaries. There will be a help desk where document verification will be performed, and documents verified for the scheme.
The beneficiaries will be provided with letters containing QR codes. These will then be scanned followed by demographic authentication for verifying the respective customer’s eligibility for the scheme.
There is no compulsion for the hospital to be National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers. At the same time, with regards to the procedure and pricing, hospitals containing NABH or NQAS can be incentivized.
As per the criteria for empanelment terms, the hospital should contain at least 10 beds.
