Vegetable prices witnessed sharp fluctuations at Koyambedu Wholesale Market in Chennai on Friday, January 2, 2026, according to traders.
Compared to last Monday (December 29), the price of drumsticks has risen steeply, while coconut and several other vegetables have become cheaper, offering partial relief to consumers.
Drumstick Price Jumps Sharply
Dec 29: ₹180 per kg
Jan 2: ₹320 per kg
Increase: ₹140 per kg
Traders attribute the sharp rise in drumstick prices to reduced arrivals and increased demand in the wholesale market.
Coconut and Other Vegetables Turn Cheaper
In contrast, coconut prices have seen a notable drop:

Earlier: ₹62 per kg
Now: ₹46 per kg
Decrease: ₹16 per kg

Beans: Down by ₹15 - ₹25 per kg
Tomato: Down by ₹10 - ₹40 per kg (from ₹50)
Ooty carrot: Down by ₹10 -₹35 per kg (from ₹45)
Yam: Down by ₹8 -₹32 per kg
Cauliflower: Down by ₹5 -₹40 per kg
Snake gourd: Down by ₹5 -₹20 per kg
Onion: Down by ₹4 - ₹26 per kg
