Here’s a simple way to resolve it without any argument
When you travel on a reserved ticket, it’s quite common to find someone else sitting in your allotted seat. Even if you politely ask them to move, some people refuse and create an uncomfortable situation. Instead of getting into an argument or a fight, Indian Railways offers a simple service that can help you get your seat back within minutes.
How does it work? Here’s what you need to do:
If someone is occupying your reserved seat and refuses to vacate it, take out your mobile phone immediately.
Send an SMS to 139:
Open your messaging app and send an SMS to 139, the Indian Railways helpline number, in the following format:
SMS format:
Type SEAT, then give a space
Enter your PNR Number
Give another space and enter your Seat Number (example: S1 45)
Give a space and type OCCUPIED BY UNKNOWN
Example:
SEAT 1234567890 S1 45 OCCUPIED BY UNKNOWN
What happens next?
Once you send this message to 139, the information is immediately forwarded to the concerned railway officials. A nearby TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) will soon come to your seat, verify the tickets, and ask the unauthorized passenger to vacate the seat.
Using this method, you can reclaim your reserved seat quickly and travel in a safe and peaceful manner. It also helps avoid unnecessary arguments and conflicts during your journey.
