Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain Likely in Six Districts

A trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar through Tamil Nadu is prevailing up to an altitude of around 1.5 km.

Due to this weather system, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely at isolated places today in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tirupattur and Ranipet districts.

The wind speed may reach 40 to 50 kmph during thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds is likely at a few places in the other Western Ghats districts, as well as in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Erode, Tiruppur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts.

Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms may occur at a few other places across Tamil Nadu, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal.

Heavy Rain Alert for Six Districts

The six districts likely to receive heavy rain are:

- Nilgiris

- Coimbatore

- Tiruvannamalai

- Vellore

- Tirupattur

- Ranipet

Residents in these districts are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds and follow updates issued by the weather authorities.
