To provide additional travel options for passengers and manage crowding on regular trains, Southern Railway is set to extend the services of six special trains, including the Chennai Egmore–Kanniyakumari special train.
Special trains are operated on key routes based on passenger demand and the response from travellers. The extended services will cover routes connecting Chennai, Kanniyakumari, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Thoothukudi and Narsapur.
Chennai Egmore–Kanniyakumari Special Train
The Chennai Egmore–Kanniyakumari special train (06045), operated on Fridays, will have four additional services from October 2 to October 23.
The return Kanniyakumari–Chennai Egmore special train (06046), operated on Sundays, will also have four additional services from October 4 to October 24.
Coimbatore–Jaipur Special Train
The Coimbatore–Jaipur special train (06181), operated on Thursdays, will have eight additional services from October 8 to November 26.
The return Jaipur–Coimbatore special train (06182), operated on Sundays, will also have eight additional services from October 11 to November 29.
Thoothukudi–Narsapur Special Train
The Thoothukudi–Narsapur special train (06019), operated on Mondays, will have nine additional services from October 5 to November 30.
The return Narsapur–Thoothukudi special train (06020), operated on Wednesdays, will have nine additional services from October 7 to December 2.
Six Special Trains Extended
The extension of these special train services is expected to benefit passengers travelling on some of the key railway routes in South India. The additional services will also help reduce crowding in regular trains and provide more travel options during periods of high demand.
