CM Vijay Leads ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu’ Campaign, Urges Students to Fight Drug Menace

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay led a major state-level ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu’ anti-drug campaign and mass pledge at a city college on Tuesday, urging people, particularly students and young people, to work together to eliminate the drug menace in the State.

During the campaign, the Chief Minister administered an anti-drug pledge focusing on personal responsibility, protecting families, supporting rehabilitation and contributing to the development of Tamil Nadu.

The pledge calls upon individuals to stay away from drugs, discourage others from using illegal substances, support people undergoing rehabilitation and cooperate with the government in its efforts to eliminate drug-related activities across the State.

Large Number of People Take Anti-Drug E-Pledge

A large number of people also took the Drug-Free Tamil Nadu e-pledge through the official Drug-Free Tamil Nadu portal, an official said.

The initiative is aimed at increasing awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraging public participation in the State`s efforts to prevent substance abuse.

Anti-Narcotics Task Force in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu government has also established a specialised Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) with district-level units to strengthen action against drug-related activities.

The task force is intended to improve enforcement and coordination in tackling the illegal distribution and use of narcotic substances across the State.

Drug-Free Tamil Nadu App for Anonymous Reporting

The government has introduced the ‘Drug-Free Tamil Nadu App’, through which students and teachers can anonymously report suspected illegal drug activities in and around their local areas.

The reporting facility is intended to encourage people to share information without revealing their identities and help authorities respond to drug-related concerns.

Youth Volunteers to Support Anti-Drug Awareness

Youth volunteer groups have also been trained to help create safer school environments and conduct local peer-to-peer anti-drug awareness campaigns.

The campaign places particular emphasis on involving students and young people in preventing drug abuse and creating greater awareness about the risks associated with substance use.

The government has said that coordinated efforts involving students, families, educational institutions, volunteers and enforcement agencies are important to achieving the goal of a Drug-Free Tamil Nadu.
