In the last 4 years, the number of train passengers has doubled in the Chennai Zone!!

As per the Southern Railways having headquarters located in Chennai, the number of passengers who travelled in the trains has doubled in the last 4 years. This has grabbed attention now.
It is known that the southern zone with headquarters in Chennai has been divided into six zones namely Chennai, Trichy, Madurai, Salem, Trivandrum and Palakkad railway divisions. These cover 3 states of TN. Kerala and Karnataka and one UT Puducherry. From Chennai everyday, 1000 trains operate and it includes 170 passenger trains also.
From Chennai Central railway station, trains operate to places like New Delhi, Trivandrum etc and from the Egmore railway station trains go to northern and southern districts in TN. From Tambaram currently, few trains are operating also.
Every day about 1300 passengers travel in the Pandian express and this includes about 300 unreserved passengers also. It is worthy to note that TN express train from Central station in Chennai carried more than 1850 passengers every day and this includes more than 500 unreserved passengers also.
As per some officials from the Chennai division of Southern Railways from 2023-24 to June 2024-25 nearly 240 crore passengers have travelled in the SR zone alone .In 2023/24 the number of passengers who travelled I the trains was 33 crores and in 2024/25 it is 73 crores. In 16 coaches of VB trains, as many as 1128 people travel at a time and it is the same in Amrit Bharat trains also. From Chennai Central to Puducherry, every day about 1.3 million people travel in 600 plus trains.
Since the train fares are lower ten bus fares, people give importance to the trains and this was as per Mr. M. Chandran who holds a license to book tickets.
According to Mr. Murugayan, Chennai Railway Passengers Association, president, the number of passengers in the electric trains to Chennai pugar pagudhi has doubled. He added that more than 60 trains were cancelled in the last one year.
