In a significant administrative move, M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has ordered promotions and transfers of 70 IPS officers across the state. The reshuffle includes promotions for 30 senior officers and fresh postings aimed at strengthening law and order and improving police administration.
Promotions Breakdown
As per the official order, promotions have been granted to:
- 3 Additional Directors General of Police (ADGPs)
- 7 Inspectors General of Police (IGs)
- 3 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs)
15 Superintendents of Police (SPs)
- 2 Additional SPs
Along with these promotions, a total of 70 IPS officers have been transferred and given new postings across various departments and regions in Tamil Nadu.
Key Appointments
Maheshwar Dayal has been appointed as ADGP (Law and Order)
Amalraj has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Tambaram
Prem Anand Sinha has been appointed as Commissioner of Police, Avadi
Government Order Issued
The detailed government order was issued by Dheeraj Kumar, Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu. Several officers were elevated to higher ranks and posted in crucial wings such as Armed Police, Cyber Crime, Economic Offences Wing, CBCID, Police Welfare, Prisons, Commando Forces, and Women and Children Crime Prevention.
Annual Promotion Exercise
Since taking office, CM M.K. Stalin has followed the practice of announcing IPS promotions and transfers every year around December 30 or 31. In line with this tradition, the 2026 IPS promotion and transfer list was released late last night.
In addition to IPS officers, the Tamil Nadu government has also ordered the transfer of 9 IAS officers to key administrative departments.
