Tamil Nadu Engineering Cut-Off Marks Likely to Drop This Year

Students seeking admission to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu may benefit this year as education experts predict a drop in engineering cut-off marks by 2 to 4 marks compared to last year.

The expected decline comes after a significant reduction in the number of students scoring centum marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in the Class 12 public examinations.

Engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu are based on cut-off marks calculated from students’ scores in these three subjects. Experts say that lower top scores this year could improve opportunities for students who narrowly missed admission to preferred colleges in previous years.

According to academic analysts:

- Students who required 195-196 cut-off marks for certain courses last year may now secure seats with around 193 marks.

- Similar reductions are expected in admissions for Veterinary Science, Fisheries, and Agriculture courses.

Education officials noted that this year’s question papers focused more on:

- Analytical thinking

- Concept-based understanding

- Application-oriented questions

rather than repeated memorization-based questions.

The number of students scoring full marks dropped sharply:

- Physics centum holders decreased from 1,125 to 105

- Botany centum holders fell from 269 to 39

- Zoology centum holders reduced from 36 to 18

Experts have advised students to carefully analyze previous years’ cut-off trends on the official counselling website before selecting college preferences.

Educationists say the reduced cut-off trend offers fresh hope for students who worked hard but scored slightly lower marks this year.
