Poonamallee - Porur - Vadapalani Metro Stretch Likely to Open by Second Week of February

Chennai’s Metro network is set for a major expansion as the Poonamallee - Porur - Vadapalani corridor is expected to open for passenger services by the second week of February, subject to final approvals.

According to officials, the 10-km Poonamallee-Porur stretch is in the final stage of clearance. Trains on this section are planned to operate at a frequency of one service every seven minutes, offering smoother connectivity for commuters in west Chennai.

The Porur–Vadapalani section will have a comparatively lower train frequency. Trains will run non-stop between Porur and Vadapalani, as intermediate stations along this stretch are still under construction.

In terms of operations, automatic signalling will be implemented between Poonamallee and Porur, while manual signalling will continue on the Porur–Vadapalani stretch for the time being.

Commuters will be able to interchange at Vadapalani and access the Green Line via a link bridge, enabling seamless travel towards the Airport and Dr. MGR Central.

Once opened, this corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion along the busy Poonamallee–Porur–Vadapalani route.
