Kapaleeswarar Temple, located in the historic heart of Mylapore, Chennai, is one of the oldest and most revered Shiva temples in South India, with origins dating back over 1000 years. The presiding deity is Lord Kapaleeswarar, with Goddess Karpagambal as the consort. The temple is famed for its Vijayanagar-style architecture, intricate sculptures, and sacred temple tank. Mylapore, historically a seaport and trade center, is also associated with legendary figures like Tiruvalluvar and the Alwars.

Major festivals include Brahmotsavam (Arupathumoovar) in April–May, Theppa Thiruvizha (Float Festival) in January, Navaratri in September–October, and Vasanta Utsavam in May–June.
