Heavy Rain Likely in 13 Districts of Tamil Nadu Today; Chennai Among Areas Expected to Receive Rain

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu today due to a weak trough extending over the lower levels of the atmosphere along the north Tamil Nadu coastal region.

According to the weather department, The Nilgiris district and the hilly regions of Coimbatore and Theni are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph at isolated places.

Meanwhile, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in other Western Ghats districts, as well as Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupathur, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, and Namakkal districts.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, and follow weather advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

This weather system is expected to bring widespread rainfall to several parts of Tamil Nadu, offering relief from the prevailing warm conditions while increasing the risk of localized waterlogging in low-lying areas.
