Tamil Nadu Weather Today: Heavy Rain Likely in 9 Districts, Chennai Rain Alert

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rain in nine districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, September 15. The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tirupattur and Ranipet are likely to receive heavy rainfall.

The weather department has also forecast moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from September 15 to September 17.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Centre, the following districts are likely to receive heavy rain on September 15:

- Nilgiris

- Coimbatore

- Erode

- Salem

- Krishnagiri

- Dharmapuri

- Vellore

- Tirupattur

- Ranipet

The rainfall may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Heavy rain is expected in 10 districts on Wednesday, September 16. These include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam.

Heavy Rain Forecast for September 17

On Thursday, September 17, heavy rain is likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur and Ariyalur.

Chennai and its suburban areas are likely to receive moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning on Tuesday.

Rainfall Recorded in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu received significant rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday.

The highest rainfall of 90 mm was recorded at Tiruchirappalli Junction and Ambalur in Tirupattur district.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre said the prevailing weather conditions are associated with a trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Southwest Bay of Bengal through Tamil Nadu, along with a wind disturbance.
