Chennai Traffic Jam: Heavy Congestion on GST Road After Vinayagar Chaturthi Holidays

The consecutive holidays for Vinayagar Chaturthi and the weekend have come to an end, prompting thousands of people who travelled to their hometowns to return to Chennai at the same time. As a result, the GST Road has been witnessing severe traffic congestion since this morning.

Heavy Rush as People Return to Chennai

Over the past few days, thousands of Chennai residents travelled to southern districts and their hometowns to celebrate Vinayagar Chaturthi. With offices, schools and colleges reopening on Monday and Tuesday after the holidays, people have started returning to Chennai in large numbers.

Government buses, omni buses, cars and two-wheelers from various parts of Tamil Nadu have been entering Chennai simultaneously. This has resulted in a significant increase in the number of vehicles on the roads compared with normal days.

Traffic Congestion from Singaperumal Koil to Guindy

The GST Road, one of Chennai`s major entry routes, has been particularly affected by the heavy traffic.

The congestion began around Singaperumal Koil near Chengalpattu and extended through Maraimalai Nagar, Guduvanchery, Kilambakkam, Vandalur, Perungalathur, Tambaram and Chromepet, reaching as far as Guindy.

The heavy vehicle movement has caused significant delays for motorists travelling towards Chennai.
