Southern Railway Announces Special Onam Trains Between Chennai, Kollam, hiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru

The Southern Railway has announced special train services between Chennai Central and Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram North and Mangaluru Junction to accommodate the increased passenger demand during the Onam festival.

These special services will operate from August 12 to September 6, and advance reservations will open at 8:00 a.m. on July 11.

Chennai Central – Kollam Bi-Weekly Special

The Chennai Central–Kollam bi-weekly special train will depart Chennai Central at 11:50 p.m. on August 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, and 29, and September 3 and 5, reaching Kollam at 4:20 p.m. the following day.

For the return journey, the train will leave Kollam at 6:45 p.m. on August 14, 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30, and September 4 and 6, arriving at Chennai Central at 11:35 a.m. the next day.

The train will stop at Perambur, Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, and Podanur before entering Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram North – Mangaluru Weekly Special

Southern Railway will also operate a weekly special train between Thiruvananthapuram North and Mangaluru Junction.

The train will depart Thiruvananthapuram North at 9:00 a.m. on August 12, 19, and 26, and September 2, reaching Mangaluru Junction at 9:00 p.m. on the same day.

In the return direction, the train will depart Mangaluru Junction at 3:15 p.m. on August 13, 20, and 27, and September 3, arriving at Thiruvananthapuram Central at 5:30 a.m. the following day.

The special train services have been introduced to help manage the heavy passenger rush expected during the Onam festival and provide additional travel options for commuters.
