Tamil Nadu Weatherman Pradeep John has predicted that the state is likely to receive above-average rainfall this month. In a post shared on social media, he stated that the average January rainfall in Tamil Nadu is 12.3 millimetres, but the state has recorded higher-than-average rainfall during the past five years, except in 2023.
He pointed out that Tamil Nadu had already received 7.8 millimetres of rainfall until the day before yesterday, and there is a strong possibility of more rainfall in the coming days. According to his forecast, rain is likely across Tamil Nadu from the day after tomorrow until January 14.
Speaking about Chennai, Pradeep John said that while the average January rainfall for the city is 16.2 millimetres, Chennai has already received 30 millimetres of rain, indicating surplus rainfall so far this month.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that strong winds of up to 60 kmph are likely to prevail today and tomorrow over the coastal areas of south Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin Sea. For the following two days, winds of up to 55 kmph are expected in the same regions.
In view of the rough sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea in the affected areas.
