Seven Flights Cancelled at Chennai Airport Due to Dense Fog in Northern States
Flight operations at Chennai International Airport were disrupted on Friday (December 19) after seven flights to and from northern destinations were cancelled due to dense fog and adverse weather conditions prevailing across several northern States.
Of the cancellations, four were outbound flights from Chennai, including Air India and IndiGo services bound for Delhi and Varanasi. The cancelled departures included an Air India flight to Delhi scheduled at 9:50 am, an IndiGo flight at 10:45 am, another Air India service at 11:00 am, and an IndiGo flight to Varanasi scheduled at 5:20 pm.
Additionally, three inbound flights from Delhi to Chennai - operated by Air India and IndiGo - were also cancelled. These included flights scheduled to arrive at 8:55 am, 9:50 am, and 10:20 am.
Apart from the cancellations, seven other flights from Chennai to destinations such as Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai were delayed by one to two hours, adding to passenger inconvenience.
Airport officials stated that the disruptions were caused by poor visibility due to dense fog and extreme cold conditions in northern India, which have persisted for over a week. Passengers have been advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates before travelling.
