Tamil Nadu Launches ‘My Home’ Housing Scheme in Chennai; 1 Lakh Affordable Homes Planned

The Tamil Nadu government has announced the launch of the `My Home` (Maa Veedu) Housing Scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at providing safe, affordable, and quality housing for low-income families and aspiring young homebuyers in the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The announcement was made as part of the Tamil Nadu Budget 2026–27, reaffirming the government`s commitment to improving urban housing and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

One Lakh Homes to Be Built Over Seven Years

Under the My Home Housing Scheme, the government plans to construct one lakh affordable homes over the next seven years in the Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The initiative seeks to address the growing demand for affordable housing while promoting planned urban development and improving access to secure residential communities.

₹15,000 Crore Investment Through PPP Model

The ambitious housing project will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is expected to attract ₹15,000 crore in investments.

To support the project, the Tamil Nadu government will provide ₹3,500 crore through an Equity Fund, encouraging private sector participation and ensuring the successful implementation of the scheme.

Affordable Housing for a Better Future

The My Home Housing Scheme aims to provide dignified and modern housing with improved infrastructure and essential amenities, particularly for economically weaker sections and young families seeking home ownership in Chennai.

The initiative is expected to boost urban development, create employment opportunities in the construction sector, and contribute to the long-term growth of Chennai`s housing infrastructure.

By combining public investment with private participation, the Tamil Nadu government aims to make affordable housing more accessible while supporting sustainable urban development across the Chennai Metropolitan Area.
