Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 22 Tamil Nadu Districts; Yellow Warning Announced

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in 22 districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, June 2.

According to the latest weather update, southwest monsoon conditions are likely to strengthen over Kerala within the next two to three days. Due to upper-air cyclonic circulation over south Kerala and adjoining Tamil Nadu regions, several parts of the state are expected to receive widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather department stated that moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely to continue across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from June 2 to June 7.

Heavy Rain Alert for 22 Districts

Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in the following districts:

Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Tiruchy, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari

The Meteorological Department has also warned of strong winds and thunderstorms in several western and southern districts over the next three days.

Chennai Weather Update

Chennai and its suburban areas are expected to witness partly cloudy skies on Tuesday, with chances of light to moderate rain in some locations.

Fishermen Warning

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into parts of the Andaman Sea, south Andhra coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining south Bay of Bengal regions due to strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph over the coming days.

Highest Rainfall Recorded

Dharmapuri district recorded the highest rainfall in the state during the last 24 hours ending Monday morning. Tiruvalladi and Vellovandanpalayam received 90 mm rainfall each.

Several districts including Erode, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Pudukkottai and Krishnagiri also recorded significant rainfall.
