The Chennai Port–Maduravoyal double-decker elevated expressway is a landmark infrastructure project aimed at easing city traffic and speeding up port cargo movement. Executed by the National Highways Authority of India, the 19–20.6 km corridor connects Chennai Port to Maduravoyal via the Cooum River stretch. As of December 2025, construction is progressing with pillar works active at Port Gate 10, Koyambedu, and Maduravoyal. The upper deck will be exclusively for heavy cargo vehicles, while the lower deck serves city traffic. Once completed in 2027, the project is expected to cut congestion, save travel time, and boost port capacity by up to 48%.
