Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 16 railway stations across TN have been modernised now. The Southern Railway headquarters has mentioned in a letter written to all chief administrative managers and divisional railway managers that the progress on the ongoing works might be reviewed. It was also revealed in the letter regarding ensuring completion of all works and to make the railway stations fit and ready by September 2025 for inauguration.
About 90% of the renovation works have been completed at the Chennai Park station now. This station is being renovated at a cost of Rs 10.68 cr. In the same way, the Mambalam railway station that is being renovated at a cost of RS 8.70 cr is now 72% completed.
About 54% of renovation has been completed now at Guduvanchery railway station. Here, works are being done at a cost of Rs 14.8cr. According to a senior officer from the railways it was clear that Chennai Park railway station receives an average daily footfall of 27000 and Mambalam receives 33000. It is amazing to note that every day Guduvancheri railway station is being used by an average of 70000 passengers.
Information collected is that under this scheme under the Salem Division railway stations in Chinna Salem, Bommidi, Udhagamandalam, Morappur, Karaikudi etc are being renovated now. Likewise in the Trichy Division, railway stations in Vellore Cantonment, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur Junction and Thanjavur Junction are being renovated. Under the Palakkad Division, Pollachi junction station is also being renovated.
Not only in TN even across Kerala state the railway stations in places like Kuttipuram, Kasargod, Feroke, Chalakudi, Waddakancheri etc are being renovated under this central scheme. In the month of September, these railway stations would be inaugurated.
