Tamil Nadu Government Directs District Collectors to Ensure Smooth Functioning of e-Seva Centres

The Tamil Nadu government has directed all District Collectors to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of e-Seva Centres across the State. However, employees working at these centres say persistent technical glitches and poor internet connectivity continue to hamper service delivery.

Managed by the Department of Information Technology and Digital Services, e-Seva Centres provide a wide range of citizen services, including the issuance of revenue certificates and other government documents.

Tamil Nadu has nearly 33,000 e-Seva Centres, of which around 6,000 are operated by the State government, while approximately 26,500 function under the franchise model.

Citizens submit applications for various certificates through these centres, which are then electronically forwarded to the respective government departments for processing.

According to officials, the Chief Minister`s Office (CMO) recently instructed all District Collectors to ensure the hassle-free functioning of e-Seva Centres following reports of delays in processing applications.

The government has also directed Collectors to closely monitor the functioning of e-Seva Centres located in District Collectorates and Taluk offices and take appropriate measures to improve public service delivery.

Despite these directives, employees at several e-Seva Centres say recurring technical issues continue to disrupt their day-to-day operations.

"Digital transactions between government offices and e-Seva Centres are frequently affected by technical glitches. This week alone, the servers were down on three occasions. Poor cable infrastructure and weak internet connectivity remain major challenges," an e-Seva Centre employee said.

Staff members have urged the government to undertake a comprehensive technological upgrade to ensure uninterrupted services and faster processing of citizen applications.

Services Available at e-Seva Centres

Citizens can avail themselves of several government services through e-Seva Centres, including:

- Community Certificate
- Nativity Certificate
- Income Certificate
- Deserted Woman Certificate
- Family Migration Certificate
- Unemployment Certificate
- Widow Certificate
- FIR Status
- Community Service Register (CSR)
- Driving Licence Services
- Birth Certificate
- Death Certificate
- New Ration Card Services

The government aims to strengthen the functioning of e-Seva Centres to ensure faster, more reliable, and citizen-friendly service delivery across Tamil Nadu.
