Forgot Money in an Old Bank Account? Here's How to Claim It

If you or a family member has a bank account that has remained inactive for more than 10 years, the unclaimed money may have been transferred to the Reserve Bank of India`s Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund. The good news is that the money can still be claimed.

Customers can check whether they have any unclaimed deposits by using the RBI`s UDGAM portal.( https://udgam.rbi.org.in )

To claim the amount:

- Visit any branch of the concerned bank.

- Complete the KYC process by submitting valid identity documents such as an Aadhaar card, passport, voter ID or driving licence.

- Submit the required claim request to recover the unclaimed deposit.

If eligible, the amount will be credited back to the account holder along with applicable interest, in accordance with the bank`s rules.

The Reserve Bank of India has advised customers to regularly review their bank accounts and remain alert about unclaimed deposits to ensure their money remains secure.
