₹90.50 Crore Modern Bus Terminal in Mamallapuram to Be Ready by July
The construction of a modern bus terminal in Mamallapuram at an estimated cost of ₹90.50 crore is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by July, according to officials from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
Mamallapuram, a globally renowned tourist destination, has long faced traffic congestion due to the absence of a permanent bus stand. At present, buses operate from a temporary facility with limited capacity, causing frequent roadblocks and inconvenience to visitors and local commuters.
To address this, the Tamil Nadu government has taken up the long-pending project to build a state-of-the-art bus terminal on about 6.79 acres of land near the East Coast Road. The project, which remained delayed for decades, gained momentum after foundation stone was laid in February 2024, with construction beginning in March 2024.
Despite minor delays due to the northeast monsoon, work is now underway at full scale, with construction teams working day and night to meet the deadline. Once completed, the new terminal will significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity for tourists and daily passengers.
