The low pressure that would form over the Bay of Bengal on 5th of December is likely to strengthen into a low pressure zone and approach the coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu on the 8th of December. The variation of speed of the east winds could result in 3 days of moderate rains in the state.

According to the press release from Mr. P. Senthamarai Kannan, director of Chennai Meteorological Centre, a low pressure area might form on the 5th December in the south east Bay of Bengal and its adjoining south Andaman sea. In the next 48 hours, it would move westward and northwestward and might become a depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal. The low pressure area might move in the west and north west direction and on 8th December it might prevail over north TN-Puducherry and adjoining south AP coastal areas.

Today, 3rd December,  there might be rains with lightning and thunderstorms  in one or two places in the Tamil Nadu coastal districts, Puducherry and Karaikal and inner districts of TN etc. this could be due to the variation in the speeds of the east winds blowing towards TN. It is now said that there would be moderate rains on 4th December in some places in the south TN districts and in one or two places in other districts etc on 5th December. The sky would be partly cloudy in Chennai for the next 48 hours and there would be light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning.
