Kuthambakkam bus terminus in Tiruvallur district that was originally planned to open in August for public use would be opened in the month of November. The bus terminus would have rooms and dormitories etc for the passengers.
Yesterday, CMDA minister Mr. P.K. Sekar Babu and TN minority affairs minister Mr. S.M. Nar made their presence felt at Kuthambakkam bus terminus. They were busy inspecting the bus terminus and ordered the engineers and contractors to speed up the ongoing work there.
It is noteworthy that this bus terminus designed as a satellite facility to ease traffic congestion in Chennai would handle about 1000 buses a day. It is really amazing to mention that Kuthambakkam bus terminus would operate 300 MTC bus services, 600 SETC bus services, 50 KSRTC bus services and 36 APSRTC bus services to the neighbouring states. More than 30000 passengers would be benefited by the buses from this bus terminus on the weekdays. On the weekends and in the festival time, the number of bus services would go up to 500000 also. This was according to the CMDA minister.
To ensure connectivity, feeder bus services would be provided from Minjur, Tiruvottriyur, Madhavaram, Saidapet and Thiruvanmiyur etc. Those who travel to districts like Ambur, Vellore and Dharmapuri etc would be benefited by the bus services.
Roundabouts construction:
It was later explained by Tiruvallur collector Mr. M. Pratap that NHAI would be constructing roundabouts on the Bengaluru highway to ensure smooth traffic flow into the bus terminus. He added that funds have been deposited with NHAI. The Kuthambakkam bus terminus would have internet facilities plus dormitories, rooms etc to help those who travel for work purposes. He concluded that there are also plans to add working spaces here.
