Lunar Eclipse on 7 September 2025: Time, duration, and how to watch Chandra Grahan live

Posted on: 05/Sep/2025 1:05:20 PM

A spectacular lunar eclipse will take place on September 7 at 11:01 a.m., lasting for 81 minutes, during which the Moon will glow in a deep red color. The Tamil Nadu Science Movement has urged the public to watch and enjoy this rare scientific event and not fall prey to superstitions.

Explaining the phenomenon, Thirunavukkarasu, State President of the Tamil Nadu Science Movement, said:
“When the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, its shadow falls on the Moon, causing a lunar eclipse. This is a natural astronomical event that everyone can observe with the naked eye.”

He also clarified that common myths surrounding eclipses are false. Beliefs such as “a snake swallowing the Moon,” “pregnant women should not watch the eclipse,” or “food must not be consumed during an eclipse” have no scientific basis.

To spread awareness, the Tamil Nadu Science Movement, along with the Indian Astronomical Institute and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, is conducting programs to educate the public. Experts confirm that pregnant women can safely view the eclipse and eat food without any harmful effects.
