Chennai Meteorological Department Warns of Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu Until May 16th!

The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a press release warning of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu from today until the 16th. Variable wind direction in the upper atmosphere may bring light to moderate rain, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari are expected to experience heavy rain today, expanding to include Madurai tomorrow and Sivagangai district on the 15th, and Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts on the 16th.

Chennai and its suburbs may see partly cloudy skies today, with light rain possible in some areas.

Yesterday`s rainfall data until 8:30 am showed Pamban in Ramanathapuram district recording the highest rainfall at 7 cm, followed by 6 cm in Manamadurai, Talavadi, Makkinampatti, Paramakkudi, Salem, and 5 cm in Sulur, Dindigul Natham, Rasipuram, and Pollachi.

Until the 16th, interior Tamil Nadu districts may see temperatures up to 106°F in the plains, 102°F in other plains, and 99°F in coastal districts.

The ongoing Agni Nakshatram Veil since May 4th has led to a decrease in temperatures. Erode and Karur Paramathi recorded the highest temperature at 105°F yesterday, followed by 104°F in Vellore, 102°F in Namakkal and Thiruttani, and 100°F in Trichy. With heavy rain expected, further temperature drops are anticipated.
