Chennai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Radhakrishnan has announced plans to replace green pavilions with shade pavilions at traffic signals in response to the intense summer heat. During his visit to the Green Lantern installation at Chennai Ribbon House Junction Signal, Radhakrishnan emphasized the importance of providing shade for motorists in traffic signal areas. He stated that efforts will be made to install shade pavilions on highways and in other traffic signal zones.
To address the scorching temperatures, water ponds have been established at 199 locations within the corporation`s jurisdiction. Additionally, political parties are permitted to install water pandals in accordance with election conduct regulations. Medical staff are overseeing the distribution of oral rehydration solution (ORS) at 299 locations, with 1,44,527 individuals having already received assistance. Radhakrishnan further noted plans to collaborate with voluntary organizations to install shade pavilions, with modifications to include piped roofing for rainy season benefits.
