Tamil Nadu Government Announces Pongal Bonus and Gift for Employees and Pensioners

The M. K. Stalin–led Tamil Nadu government has announced a major welfare measure for government employees and pensioners ahead of Pongal. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered the allocation of ₹183.86 crore to provide festival bonus and Pongal gift to eligible beneficiaries across the state.

As per the order, ‘C’ and ‘D’ category government employees and teachers will receive a special festival bonus, capped at ₹3,000, as Pongal incentive.

Special Bonus for Contract and Wage-Based Employees

Employees working on:

- Consolidated pay

- Special time-scale pay

- Full-time and part-time basis

who have worked for at least 240 days during the 2024–25 financial year and are receiving fixed monthly wages will be granted a special bonus of ₹1,000.

Pongal Gift for Pensioners and Former Village Officials

The government has also announced a ₹1,000 Pongal gift for:

- ‘C’ and ‘D’ category pensioners

- Family pensioners

- Former Village Administrative Officers

- Village Assistants

- All categories of special pensioners

According to the announcement, this decision will benefit around 9.90 lakh people across Tamil Nadu.

The move is aimed at providing financial relief and festive cheer to government staff, pensioners, and grassroots-level workers during the Pongal festival, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to employee welfare.
