Helpline Numbers for spotting and reporting on pavement / road dwelling citizens!

The Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), Gagandeep Singh Bedi, has informed that NEW HELPLINE NUMBERS HAVE BEEN SET UP to spot and report on the citizens dwelling on the roads/pavements under the jurisdiction of the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Awareness was conducted by a cycle march on Sunday (Yesterday, 10th October) on the World Day of Homeless Citizens to retrieve these citizens and provide them with a better living.

This Cycle procession for creating awareness on houseless citizens was inaugurated by the GCC Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi at the War Memorial located near the Island Grounds in Chennai Metro City.

After the inauguration, the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner shared:

“On the occasion of the World Homeless Citizens’ Day, SPECIAL CAMPS ARE BEING ORGANISED TO RETRIEVE THE PAVEMENT/ROAD DWELLERS IN THE AREAS – Koyambedu Bus Terminus Complex, Chennai Central Railway Station Complex, Anna Square Bus Terminus, Parry’s Corner Bus Terminus, Marina Beach, Egmore Railway Station, Alwarpet, and Vepery – were retrieved and provide them with a better living condition.

On behalf of the Department of General Health and Welfare under the Greater Chennai Corporation, 15 Men’s lodges and 9 Women’s lodges,5 boys’ lodges, 3 girls’ lodges, 9 lodges for the mentally ill men, 2 lodges for the mentally ill women, 4 lodges for the Senior Citizens,  1 lodge for the mentally-retarded boys,  1 lodge for the differently-abled women, 1 lodge for the transgender cadre, 6 Men’s lodges for the citizens who stay with patients under treatment,  and 7 special lodges fort eh women who stay with patients in hospitals for treatment have been set up making a total of 55 lodges which are functioning.

Presently, 1667 citizens have been accommodated in these lodges and all required treatments are being provided.

Citizens, who spot people living on roads/pavements, can immediately report to the new Helpline numbers of GCC – 1913, 9445190472, and 044 25303849.”

Assistant Commissioner (health)  Dr S. Manish,  Assistant Commissioner (Education) D. Sneha, Assitant Commissioners Simranjit Singh Gahlone, M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, Chennai Metro City Welfare Officer Dr M. Jagadeesan, and several other senior officials participated in this special awareness event.
