The commuters who travel from places like Saidapet, Guindy, Kodambakkm, Anna Nagar, Nungambakkam and Adyar etc to T. Nagar would feel delighted now for this reason.
Traffic congestion would get eased in the busy T. Nagar with the inauguration of the newly constructed flyover between South Usman Road and CIT Nagar First Main Road.
On 28th of September this 1.2km long flyover constructed at a cost of Rs 165 crores would be inaugurated for the public use.
In June 2023, the construction of this important flyover started but the inauguration got delayed by 6 months due to delayed police permission for the work from Burkit Road to Old flyover that was required for demolition and reconnection.
Mr. B. Shankaravelu, chief engineer (Bridges) spoke about how the newly constructed flyover at T. Nagar would be superb for the commuters. It must be noted that the new flyover is 1.2km in length and it connects the old flyover or bridge which is 0.8km. By this, the travel time of the commuters would be reduced as they would be able to cover a 2km stretch within minutes. The traffic congestion would be eased in the locality. To construct the flyover, atleast 4000 tonnes of steel was used. Concrete and steel were used in the constriction of the flyover by GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation. Information gathered is that the flyover was certified after the tests conducted by IIT-Madras.
Under the infrastructural and amenities fund, Rs 164.92 cr was spent on the constriction of the flyover. It must be noted that this is the first steel bridge constructed in Chennai by the TN government. There is another steel bridge in Tamil Nadu that has been constructed by NHAI or National Highway Authorities of India.
