
What is more fun than sitting at the tea stall or tea kadai or tea shop sipping a cup of hot coffee or tea and chatting with a group of friends there?
From yesterday, this above-mentioned activity might not be fun for many people. If you have gone to the tea shop yesterday and were surprised by the sudden increase in the prices, then you are not alone.
The news is that after 3 years the prices of coffee and tea have increased now. Not only these, prices of samosa, bajji etc have also become more now.
From those working in IT companies to the daily wagers, drinking coffee or tea is a common habit and it has become part and parcel of their lives. Only after drinking these beverages, some people be able to get through the day. The lifestyle in the cities is so complicated that it is possible to count the number of persons who do not drink coffee or tea.
It must be noted that there are many tea stalls in Chennai as the youngsters now have the habit of drinking hot beverages many times in a day. Office goers drink tea or coffee to relieve their stress.
In this scenario, the Tea Shop Traders Association has announced that tea and coffee prices must be increased from 1st of September after 3 years. The various reasons for price hike cited by them were increase in the price of milk, increase in tea/coffee power prices, increase in the transportation costs and increase in the price of cooking cylinders etc.
From yesterday, a glass of tea was increased from Rs 12 to Rs 15 and a glass of coffee from Rs 15 to Rs 20. It must be noted that the prices of special tea, ragi malt, and sukku coffee have increased from Rs 15 to Rs 20. The prices of boost and horlicks have gone up from Rs 20 to Rs 25 now. At the old price of Rs 15, a glass of milk and glass of lemon tea are being sold now.
In the same way, cup tea and milk parcels have increased to Rs 45 now and cup coffee, special tea, ragi malt, and sukku coffee parcels have increased to Rs 60.
The important piece of information is that the price hike was implemented yesterday at a few tea shops only in Chennai. Some tea stall owners have mentioned that they would not be hiking the prices immediately. They spoke about how the prices would be increased gradually so that it doesn`t affect the public. Till now a piece of bajji, samosa was sold for Rs 12 but from yesterday these were sold for Rs 15 per piece. It is now said that the sudden hike in the prices of tea, coffee etc would increase the daily expenses.
