People are vulnerable to Corona virus infection more in certain areas and these areas have been identified by the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC now.
It must be noted that as many as 1979 areas in Chennai are now being considered as high risk areas by the GCC. Beginning from the first week of the month of June, street mapping of these high risk areas would start in all the 15 zones belonging to GCC.
Few non-governmental organisations would also be playing their part in the street mapping process. It is now mentioned that these non-governmental organisations have begun work of training the workers for door-to-door enquiries for mapping the vulnerable persons. Vulnerable persons would be connected with the Chennai Corporation based sanitary inspectors by this street mapping process.
An official of the corporation revealed how most residents were not willing to get help from the civic workers and how some were even afraid to give their samples for testing. Intensification of community intervention would soon be carried out by the GCC with support from NGOs in the high risk areas in Chennai.
In few areas, the work on the containment of Corona virus infection has been affected due to some corporation workers testing positive. The new appointments have not joined duty and this was according to some officials.
There has been poor coordination among various departments and zonal offices belonging to the corporation. Point is those streets that were not in the containment zones were also barricaded and many complaints have been received on this issue.
